Tarouba (GNP): First test, Shan Masood struck an unbeaten 88 and combined with Imam-ul-Haq for a 155-run partnership as Pakistan finished day two of the first Test against West Indies at 199 for three, at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.
Having bowled the hosts out for 311 earlier in the day, Pakistan now trail by 112 runs with seven first-innings wickets still in hand. Salman Ali Agha remained unbeaten on zero alongside Shan when poor light forced an early finish to play.
Pakistan’s Batting Response
Pakistan lost debutant opener Azan Awais early, dismissed for a nine-ball duck by Kemar Roach with the total still on one. Shan and Imam then steadied the innings, putting on 155 runs for the second wicket to keep Pakistan firmly in control.
Shan batted aggressively, reaching his half-century off just 46 balls with nine boundaries, before settling into a more composed approach against the West Indies bowlers and finishing the day with 11 fours from 137 balls. Imam offered solid support, bringing up his own half-century off 81 balls and going on to score 63 from 102 deliveries, including seven fours, before being caught at first slip off Shamar Joseph.
Captain Babar Azam added 23 off 38 balls, contributing to a 41-run stand with Shan, before edging Jayden Seales through to wicketkeeper Shai Hope shortly before stumps.
West Indies Bowled Out for 311
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s pace attack wrapped up the West Indies innings, taking the remaining seven wickets for 117 runs after the hosts resumed on 194 for three. Mohammad Ali led the attack with figures of 4 for 50, including the key wicket of Shai Hope, who fell just eight runs short of a century. Mohammad Abbas took 3 for 63, while Khurram Shahzad claimed two wickets.
Overnight batter Kavem Hodge added just one run to his score before being dismissed by Khurram, caught by Salman. Hope was the standout performer for West Indies, top-scoring with 92 off 182 balls, while a quickfire 23 off 13 balls from Shamar Joseph helped push the total past 300. Ali dismissed both Joseph and Hope after lunch before bowling Seales to close out the innings at 311.
