China, Turkey, and Egypt to boycott G20 summit in IIOJK

After China, now Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt have also canceled their registration for the G20 summit.

Islamabad, 22 May 2023 (GNP): The G20 summit in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) faces mounting isolation as more countries express their disapproval of India’s controversial hosting of the event.

India’s decision to host the G20 tourism working group meeting in Sirinagar is illegal under international law, that has drawn widespread criticism and led to boycott of the summit.

China set the tone by announcing its refusal to participate in the G20 summit.

Wang Wen-bin, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, categorically announced, “China firmly opposes holding any form of G20 meetings on disputed territory. We will not attend such meetings.”

This stance resonated with other countries, as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt also abstained from the summit’s registration process.

However, despite boycott of the summit by countries, India has defended its decision to host the summit in Jammu and Kashmir- an internationally recognized disputed territory.

This is the first international event of such magnitude to take place in IIOJK since India revoked its special status in 2019.

Meanwhile, all political parties and freedom-fighting organizations in IIOJK have declared a nationwide strike in solidarity with Kashmiris.

The political leadership of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the All Parties Hurriyat Conference also called for a shutdown on 22 May.

FM Bilawal Bhutto in AJK:

On Sunday, Pakistan’s foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in Muzaffarabad on a three-day visit to express solidarity with the Kashmiris against India’s violation of international laws by hosting the G20 conference in IIOJK.

Speaking to the media, Bilawal stated, “India cannot suppress the voice of Kashmiris through a conference. By violating the UN resolution, it is not possible for India to play an effective role in the world.”
