Alhamra Hosts "From Lines to Portraits" Scribble Art Workshop

Lahore (GNP): The Lahore Arts Council Alhamra organized a special workshop titled “From Lines to Portraits” at the Colin David Studio, introducing young participants to the art of scribble portraiture under the guidance of renowned artist Numaira Javed.

The workshop gave participants hands-on experience exploring how seemingly random lines and abstract shapes can be transformed into expressive, meaningful portraits. Javed demonstrated techniques related to observation, proportion, structure, facial expressions, and composition, drawing on her own artistic experience to share practical methods while encouraging participants to experiment with unconventional forms of visual expression.

Through a series of practical exercises, participants gained an understanding of fundamental portrait-making techniques and explored contemporary approaches under the artist’s direct guidance. The interactive format allowed them to translate observation into visual art while developing their own creative styles.

Muhammad Nawaz Gondal, Executive Director of Lahore Arts Council Alhamra, said giving young people practical exposure to contemporary art forms remains central to Alhamra’s cultural and educational mission. He noted that training programs run by the Alhamra Academy of Performing Arts continue to create meaningful opportunities for young people to build creative thinking and artistic skills through direct engagement with established professionals.

He added that Alhamra regularly hosts specialized workshops across various artistic disciplines, giving aspiring artists and art enthusiasts the chance to learn directly from experienced practitioners and refine their skills through hands-on training. He said such initiatives would continue as part of Alhamra’s broader effort to connect young people with the arts and provide platforms for their creative development.

The free workshop drew a large turnout of young participants, who actively took part in the exercises and gained practical instruction in contemporary portrait-making techniques.
