Alhamra celebrates International Dance Day with heritage and artistry

Lahore (GNP) :-  Lahore Arts Council, Alhamra, in collaboration with the Shakir Ali Museum (Pakistan National Council of the Arts), presented an extraordinary and artistically compelling celebration of International Dance Day, reaffirming its stature as a premier institution dedicated to the preservation and advancement of performing arts. Hosted at Alhamra Hall No. 1, the event unfolded as a refined confluence of tradition, innovation, and artistic excellence.

The evening brought together an impressive ensemble of performers, including artists from the Alhamra Academy of Performing Arts, PNCA Academy, Versatile Dance Company, and Vicky Samart Dance Unity, as well as the accomplished disciples of Hammad Rashid and Azka Zia. Each performance was a testament to technical precision, creative expression, and a deep reverence for the art of dance.

Alhamra’s association with dance is both historic and profound. As a nurturing ground for some of the country’s most accomplished classical dancers, the institution has long served as a guardian of tradition and a catalyst for artistic evolution. The enduring legacy of legendary masters who once imparted their craft within these very walls continues to shape generations of performers, making Alhamra a cornerstone of dance heritage in Pakistan.

Executive Director Alhamra Muhammad Nawaz Gondal, in his remarks, stated, “Dance is the language of the soul, a timeless expression that transcends boundaries and speaks to the essence of human experience. Alhamra stands as a custodian of this profound art form, where tradition is preserved with integrity and innovation is encouraged with vision. This celebration is not merely an event; it is a tribute to a legacy that continues to inspire excellence and artistic distinction.”

The program featured a series of captivating performances, including a graceful classical rendition by Shehzaib Raja that drew widespread admiration. In contrast, Tamseel’s performance added a refined aesthetic depth to the evening. The collaborative classical presentation by Iqbal Zakria and Jessica emerged as a highlight, blending elegance with expressive intensity.

Performers Zaib Abdullah and Muqadas Malik further enriched the program with their remarkable artistry, while Kathak exponents illuminated the intricate beauty and rhythmic sophistication of classical dance traditions. The finale, delivered by Iqbal Zakria and Jessica, concluded the evening on a note of lasting brilliance.

The ceremony was attended by the In-Charge of Shakir Ali Museum, Fatima Salman, Almas Manzoor, Saima Mudassar, and other distinguished officials. They said the celebration of International Dance Day at Alhamra stood as a resounding affirmation of the institution’s enduring commitment to artistic excellence, leaving an indelible impression on all those in attendance.
