Islamabad, 3 August 2022 (GNP): The Federal Minister for Human Rights of Pakistan, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, received the Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan Dr. Riina Kionkaaa.
The two sides addressed a range of topics of interest during the discussion. Additionally, they discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral collaboration.
The Federal Minister also appreciated the EU’s initiatives to work with Pakistan. He proclaimed that the EU had been crucial in improving Pakistan’s socioeconomic situation.
The Minister also expressed hope that relations between the two sides will continue to improve, particularly in light of the EU-Pakistan Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP).

The Strategic Engagement Plan was approved in 2019. The strategy calls for collaboration in a number of sectors, such as trade expansion, security, local stability, combating climate change, and cross-cultural exchange.
According to the Minister of Human Rights, Pakistan remains dedicated to advancing the 27 international conventions that the GSP Scheme requires.
Dr. Kionka complimented Pakistan’s efforts to advance and dedication to putting the conventions into effect in return. She continued by saying that the Monitoring Report had also expressed satisfaction with Pakistan’s development.
The Minister highlighted the need for improved coordination between the two in order to successfully execute GSP conventions.
EU-Pakistan Ties
Pakistan is part of the EU’s GSP plus scheme, which provides tariff preferences for Pakistani exports to the EU to support the development and counter poverty. EU is one of the biggest export destinations for Pakistani products.
Apart from trade and business, the EU and Pakistan enjoy good relations in the fields of education, culture, political cooperation, development, and people-to-people ties.
