Pakistan reaffirms historic ties with Egypt, Rana Tanveer

The celebration of National Day of the Arab Republic of Egypt held at Islamabad

Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain, represented the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan at the celebration of the National Day of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Federal Minister expressed it was a privilege and great honour to join the Egyptian brothers and sisters on this momentous occasion. On behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan, Mr. Hussain extended heartiest felicitations to the leadership and people of Egypt in commemorating a historic national transformation—a revolution that inspired self-determination, sovereignty, and development across the Arab and Muslim world.

Highlighting the deep-rooted historical relations between Pakistan and Egypt, the Minister noted that diplomatic relations between the two countries, established in 1948, have steadily evolved into a strong and broad-based partnership, encompassing areas such as politics, defence, trade, culture, and education.

He expressed gratitude for Egypt’s consistent support to Pakistan on key regional and international matters, especially on the right of self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, terming it a principled and brotherly stance.

Mr. Hussain appreciated the close cooperation between Pakistan and Egypt at international platforms such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Non-Aligned Movement, and the United Nations, where both countries have upheld common positions on peace, justice, and sovereignty.

The Minister further highlighted the revival of the Pakistan–Egypt Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) and noted that both governments are working towards finalizing various bilateral agreements in trade, agriculture, higher education, and cultural exchange.

Referring to Egypt’s impressive progress in agricultural development, the Minister called for enhanced collaboration in areas such as agricultural science, seed development, arid farming, capacity building, drip irrigation, and climate-smart technologies, where Egypt has notable expertise.

Mr. Hussain also acknowledged Egypt’s generous assistance to Pakistan during humanitarian crises, particularly medical support during the COVID-19 pandemic, and expressed sincere gratitude for this solidarity.

Speaking in his capacity as Minister for National Food Security and Research, Mr. Hussain emphasized the importance of joint initiatives in food security, biotechnology, and sustainable agricultural practices. He said that Pakistan and Egypt’s shared experience in managing water-scarce environments offers an opportunity for meaningful partnerships between research institutions and private sectors in both nations.

He appreciated the contributions of the Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture (EICA) in providing training opportunities to Pakistani professionals in the fields of food technology, irrigation, and rural development.

In conclusion, Mr. Hussain extended warm congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and the Government and people of Egypt, with prayers for continued progress, peace, and prosperity. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening the historical brotherhood with Egypt and unlocking the full potential of Pakistan–Egypt relations for the mutual benefit of the two nations and the broader Muslim Ummah.
