BCCI agrees to add Pakistan’s name on their jersey

India has confirmed its compliance with the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) dress code and logo guidelines for the upcoming Champions Trophy, set to take place from February 19 to March 9. Devajit Saikia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), dismissed rumors that the board had objected to host Pakistan’s name appearing on India’s official jersey.

“BCCI will follow every uniform-related ICC rule during the Champions Trophy,” Saikia said, emphasizing adherence to tournament protocols. He clarified that there had been no concerns raised about the jersey logo, which aligns with ICC practices seen in previous tournaments, such as Pakistan wearing India’s name during the 2023 ICC World Cup.

Due to security concerns, India will not travel to Pakistan for the event. Instead, the Indian team will play all its matches in Dubai under a “Hybrid Model,” marking the first time such a format is being implemented. Key matches, including a highly anticipated league game against Pakistan, will be held in Dubai, with semi-finals and the final also scheduled there if India qualifies.

However, uncertainty remains regarding Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s participation in ICC pre-tournament activities, such as press conferences and an official photo shoot in Lahore. Saikia noted, “Whether Rohit Sharma travels to Pakistan for ICC media engagements is still under discussion.”

The decision reflects the ongoing political tensions between the neighboring countries, which have often influenced bilateral cricketing ties. While logistical and security concerns are being weighed, the BCCI has reiterated its commitment to ICC regulations for the tournament.
