Islamabad (GNP): Turkish Ambassador Irfan Neziroglu called on Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif at his office in Islamabad. The two sides exchanged views on matters of shared interest and on ways to deepen defence cooperation and the long-standing fraternal relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye.
The Defence Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding bilateral ties with Türkiye in all areas of mutual interest.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have completed ratification of their defence arrangement, while Türkiye is still seeking parliamentary approval.
Pakistan has long-standing military ties with Riyadh, including training and advisory cooperation, and Türkiye is reportedly considering defensive help involving technical specialists, air-defence capabilities and electronic warfare expertise.
Together, the text suggests, these contributions could improve Saudi Arabia’s ability to detect and intercept Houthi missiles and drones.
Pakistan’s military experience, combined with Türkiye’s strength in drone and counter-drone technology, could enhance surveillance, early warning and operational coordination, and might make Houthi attacks less effective and increase pressure on the group.
The actual impact, however, would depend on real deployments, and both countries have stressed that their cooperation is defensive and not aimed at offensive operations against Yemen.
Türkiye, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia signed an agreement on Wednesday to boost defence cooperation and strengthen defensive capabilities, according to the Turkish Defence Ministry.
