Morocco Relieves Madiha Khayr of Ministerial Duties

Rabat (GNP): Morocco’s government has acted quickly on the appointment of Madiha Khayr as Minister Delegate in charge of Professional Training and Qualification. It says the move is part of its duties and shows its commitment to completing the constitutional process of forming the government.

Government Spokesperson Samir Belfkih, who is also Minister of Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy, announced the decision in a statement. He also addressed the personal judicial and medical information that has been circulating on the matter.

Belfkih said the government had been following the issue closely. Its decision rests on a political and institutional assessment shared by the members of the government majority.

According to the statement, the majority members reaffirmed their common commitment to the success of the government. They also want public debate to return to the government’s agenda and to citizens’ expectations, in the public interest.

On that basis, the Head of Government submitted a request to King Mohammed VI to relieve Khayr of her duties. She acted under the powers the Constitution gives her, in particular paragraph 4 of Article 47. His Majesty approved the request.

Belfkih said the government wants to create the right conditions to move towards parliamentary investiture. Once that step is complete, the government can focus on carrying out its programme and meeting its commitments to citizens.

Belfkih said, “The swift action on the matter is part of the government’s duties.”
