Pakistan, Canada vow to deepen economic partnership

Bangkok (GNP): Finance and Revenue Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met Randeep Sarai, Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, on the margins of the World Bank Group-IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting aimed to strengthen economic cooperation between Pakistan and Canada.

Aurangzeb presented Pakistan’s economic stabilisation and urged progress on an investment protection agreement to attract Canadian investors. The two sides looked at openings in agriculture, agro-technology, livestock and food security, with a focus on private-sector involvement.

Talks covered the Barrick mining project, including its security review, financing arrangements and potential contribution to exports and jobs. Aurangzeb also pointed to opportunities in IT services, AI skills, virtual assets and engagement with the diaspora, including remittances sent from Canada.
