Islamabad (GNP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the fundamental rights and dignity of all citizens, as enshrined in Pakistan’s 1973 Constitution.
Marking World Humanitarian Day, Pakistan joined the international community in reaffirming its dedication to humanitarian values including compassion, human dignity, and solidarity, paying tribute to humanitarian workers and organizations who dedicate their efforts to serving humanity.
The day is observed annually in memory of the 22 humanitarian workers killed in the 2003 bombing of the UN compound in Baghdad, and honors the courage and sacrifice of humanitarian workers operating in crisis-affected regions worldwide.
The statement noted that Pakistan has consistently demonstrated humanitarian commitment on the global stage, citing its longstanding contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and its history of hosting millions of Afghan refugees, alongside providing assistance during regional and global humanitarian crises. This tradition of hospitality and support, the government said, reflects a core part of Pakistan’s national character.
At the domestic level, the government reaffirmed that protecting the rights of vulnerable and marginalized communities remains a top priority, with ongoing efforts aimed at building a more inclusive and equitable society that ensures equal access to opportunity regardless of background.
The statement highlighted that over the past year, the Ministry of Human Rights has worked to translate policy commitments into concrete action through welfare centers, training institutions, and protection facilities. This includes initiatives to promote the social inclusion of persons with disabilities and ensure their access to essential services, as well as efforts to expand women’s participation in social and economic life.
The government emphasized that protecting vulnerable groups, promoting gender equality, safeguarding children’s rights, and empowering youth remain essential components of its broader human rights and social welfare agenda.
