Karachi (GNP): The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has earned its third consecutive Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology (ACC), recognizing its sustained delivery of evidence-based care for heart attack patients.
The award stems from AKUH’s participation in the ACC’s Chest Pain-MI Registry, a system that allows hospitals to continuously measure their cardiac care against established clinical benchmarks and identify areas for improvement. For patients, this means treatment is guided by internationally recognized standards, backed by ongoing quality review.
Participation in the registry enables AKUH’s clinical teams to use data-driven insights to improve the consistency of heart attack care, supporting a structured approach spanning diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care, while helping identify opportunities for further improvement.
Dr. Farhat Abbas, CEO of AKU Health System Pakistan, said this third consecutive international recognition reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered cardiac care and the dedication of its clinical teams to improving patient outcomes.
Officials noted that as Pakistan faces a growing burden of cardiovascular disease, ongoing measurement of care quality also offers insight into shifting disease patterns — including a rising concern around heart attacks among younger adults, underscoring the importance of early risk detection and stronger preventive care.
Dr. Javed Majid Tai, Director of the Cath Lab and Site Director for the National Cardiovascular Data Registry at AKUH, said the registry allows the hospital to continuously benchmark its care against established standards and identify areas for improvement, supporting more consistent outcomes for patients.
Dr. Farhala Baloch, Assistant Professor in AKUH’s Section of Cardiology, added that understanding evolving patterns in cardiovascular disease is essential to improving both prevention and treatment, particularly given rising concerns about heart attacks among younger patients.
