Islamabad (GNP): President Asif Ali Zardari has called for broader cooperation between Pakistan and Sweden in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable technology, information technology, and agriculture, while also emphasizing the value of parliamentary exchanges and high-level visits in strengthening bilateral relations.
The President made these remarks while meeting Ahmed Amjad Ali, Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Sweden, who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Congratulating the incoming ambassador, President Zardari pointed to the longstanding friendly ties between the two countries and noted their shared commitment to multilateralism, a rules-based international order, human rights, and democratic values. He highlighted the significance Pakistan places on Sweden as both an economic partner and an influential member of the EU, UN, and other international bodies.
Referencing the recent growth in trade between the two nations, the President encouraged the Ambassador-designate to pursue academic exchanges, joint research initiatives, and technical and vocational training through institutional collaborations.
He also expressed confidence that the incoming ambassador would build strong connections with the thousands of Pakistanis living in Sweden, acknowledging their role in Sweden’s development while helping foster positive perceptions of Pakistan abroad.
Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde described the relationship between the two countries as one rooted in trust and innovation, where Swedish know-how blends with local expertise to produce meaningful results. She noted that rather than simply shipping finished products to Pakistan, Swedish firms are manufacturing and innovating locally, partnering with Pakistani companies to deliver high-quality outcomes.
At a related exhibition, Hitachi Energy and Wah Nobel Group displayed their work in energy infrastructure and industrial technology, while Ericsson Pakistan, Talkpool, and Panasian Group showcased developments in telecommunications, IoT connectivity, and digital integration. Tetra Pak and Gul Ahmed presented their progress in sustainable packaging and environmentally friendly textile manufacturing — together illustrating how deeply Swedish investment and expertise have become embedded in Pakistan’s industrial landscape.
Looking forward, the Swedish embassy indicated plans to continue expanding cooperation in trade, climate action, innovation, education, and gender equality.
