ISTANBUL (GNP): Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor has confirmed they have opened transfer negotiations with Mohamed Salah, with club chair Ertugrul Dogan saying he hopes to complete the signing of the Egypt forward before the week is out. The club stated that discussions are underway to bring Salah, who is currently a free agent, to the Black Sea outfit.
Dogan told broadcaster A Spor that while the deal has not yet been finalized, Salah is expected to travel to Istanbul on Wednesday for a medical examination before heading to Trabzon to complete his registration with the club. He stopped short of confirming an exact date for the contract signing but indicated it would likely take place on Thursday.
The move would end Salah’s nine-year association with Liverpool, which concluded this past summer. Over that spell he scored 257 goals in 442 appearances and helped the club win the Premier League twice and the Champions League once.
His standout campaign came in the 2024-25 season, when he scored 29 Premier League goals and added 18 assists, a haul that matched the league’s all-time record for goal involvements in a single season and set the record for a 38-game campaign. That performance earned him the Premier League Player of the Season award along with the Golden Boot and Playmaker Award, making him the first player to claim all three honors in one season.

His form dipped significantly the following season, when he managed just seven goals and seven assists across 27 league appearances and found himself dropped for Champions League fixtures, a decision that led to a public disagreement with then-manager Arne Slot. Salah began his European career at Swiss club Basel in 2012 before moving to Chelsea, followed by loan spells at Fiorentina and Roma between 2015 and 2017 ahead of his eventual switch to Liverpool.
Should the transfer go through, Salah would join a Trabzonspor side regarded as Turkey’s fourth-biggest club behind the Istanbul trio of Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas. Trabzonspor finished third in the Super Lig last season and are set to enter the Europa League playoffs. Notably, Salah had previously been in advanced talks with Besiktas, but that move stalled over disagreements on financial terms and image-rights demands, according to the club’s football director Onder Ozen, as reported by local media.
