Islamabad (GNP): Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Yerzhan Kistafin, said his country remains committed to strengthening economic ties with Pakistan and advancing regional integration through concrete initiatives, speaking at a reception hosted for senior journalists at the Kazakh Embassy.
Kistafin emphasized that improved transport connectivity — spanning rail, road, and air links — is essential to unlocking the full potential of regional trade, pointing to the North-South and Middle Corridor initiatives as potential major drivers of commerce in the years ahead.
Kazakhstan’s Economic Growth
The ambassador described Kazakhstan as one of Central Asia’s fastest-growing economies, citing an annual GDP of roughly $300 billion, per capita GDP of around $15,000, and inflation maintained in the single digits. He said the country’s stable macroeconomic environment and investor-friendly policies have opened new avenues for regional economic cooperation.
Political and Constitutional Reforms
Turning to Kazakhstan’s domestic reforms, Kistafin said the country has undertaken sweeping changes aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and governance, noting that nearly 300 new laws have been passed over the past three years as part of this transformation. He said constitutional reforms have expanded the role of representative institutions and increased public participation in governance, describing the broader “New Kazakhstan” vision as centered on building a more transparent and accountable state.
He credited President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with leading a comprehensive reform agenda focused on institutional strengthening, economic diversification, infrastructure modernization, digital transformation, and human capital development — all aimed at ensuring long-term economic resilience.
Reflecting on Five Years in Pakistan
Reviewing his tenure as ambassador, which is set to conclude in the coming months, Kistafin said Pakistan-Kazakhstan relations have advanced significantly across political, economic, and diplomatic areas. He noted that during his time in the role, Kazakhstan’s president, prime minister, and senior officials engaged in high-level exchanges with Pakistan for the first time, leading to expanded bilateral cooperation.
He also pointed to new institutional mechanisms established during his tenure, including a bilateral Business Council and joint working groups covering trade, information technology, and education — platforms he said are helping both countries identify new opportunities for investment and knowledge exchange.
Kistafin stressed that stronger connectivity would benefit not only bilateral trade but also energy cooperation, transit, and logistics across Central and South Asia, expressing confidence that improved infrastructure and continued political commitment could help transform the Pakistan-Kazakhstan relationship into a broader economic partnership benefiting the wider region.

The event concluded with the ambassador presenting certificates of appreciation to journalists and media professionals in recognition of their role in strengthening ties between Kazakhstan and Pakistan.
