Culture Secretary Inspects Renovation Work at Alhamra Academy

Lahore (GNP): As part of ongoing efforts to modernize Punjab’s cultural facilities, Information & Culture Secretary Syed Tahir Raza Hamdani carried out a detailed inspection of the renovation and upgrade work underway at the Alhamra Academy of Performing Arts and Alhamra Studios. He was joined during the visit by Alhamra Executive Director Muhammad Nawaz Gondal, with the tour centered on assessing construction quality, infrastructure progress, and the overall pace of the development work.

The secretary met with senior Lahore Arts Council officials and received a briefing from Deputy Director Administration Syed Umair Hassan, who outlined the scope and current status of the projects. He explained that the renovations are intended to turn the Academy and Studios into modern creative and educational facilities that align with international standards.

The briefing covered planned improvements to classrooms, rehearsal areas, studio spaces, technical systems, both interior and exterior facilities, safety infrastructure, and overall learning environments. These upgrades are meant to give students, teachers, artists, and researchers access to well-equipped spaces that support high-quality performing arts training, professional development, and creative work.

The secretary was also updated on the project’s timeline, the standard of construction, how public funds were being utilized, quality control measures, safety protocols, and plans for the remaining phases of work. During his visit, Hamdani reviewed progress and instructed that all aspects of the project be finished on schedule without compromising on quality, transparency, or accountability. He reiterated that the Punjab government remains committed to equipping artists, students, and cultural professionals with modern spaces that nurture creativity and artistic growth.

Speaking at the event, Executive Director Gondal said that putting resources into cultural infrastructure amounts to investing in human creativity and the broader future of society. He described the renovation of Alhamra Academy and Studios as a major step toward building world-class spaces for learning and artistic production, where up-and-coming artists can develop their skills, experiment creatively, and contribute to Pakistan’s cultural life.

Wrapping up the visit, the secretary voiced satisfaction with both the progress and the quality of the ongoing work, reaffirming the provincial government’s continued commitment to supporting the arts and cultural institutions. He added that sustained investment in this kind of infrastructure would help cement Alhamra’s position as one of Pakistan’s leading centers for artistic excellence — preserving its legacy while adapting to the changing needs of the country’s creative community.
