Islamabad (GNP) — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said Saturday that the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, would be remembered for generations to come for his wisdom, leadership, and lasting impact on both Iran and the region.
In a post on X, the prime minister said he had paid his respects and delivered condolences on behalf of Pakistan’s government and people at the funeral ceremony held for the late Iranian leader.
He noted that, as a gesture of solidarity with Iran, he was joined by a high-level delegation that included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, senior lawmakers such as PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, along with senior cabinet ministers and government officials.
“As a brotherly neighbor, Pakistan stands with Iran in this time of grief,” Shehbaz said.
Reflecting on the occasion, the prime minister spoke of the enduring contributions the late Supreme Leader made in service of Islam, praising the wisdom and insight with which he had guided the Iranian nation over several decades.
Shehbaz also conveyed solidarity with Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, as well as Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and the Iranian people, during what he described as a moment of national mourning, and offered prayers for the late leader.
Following the ceremony, the prime minister — who had landed in Tehran earlier that same day — traveled onward to Istanbul to begin his official visit to Türkiye.
Before departing, Shehbaz recorded a personal message in the condolence book set up at the funeral. He was joined at the ceremony by a parliamentary delegation that included Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, several members of parliament, and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
