Blessing Muzarabani has been handed a two-year ban from the Pakistan Super League after opting to withdraw from his PSL contract in order to participate in the Indian Premier League with Kolkata Knight Riders.
Muzarabani was initially unsold in the PSL 2026 draft but was later picked up by Islamabad United as a replacement player. However, his stint with the franchise was short-lived after KKR approached him to join their squad as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman, who had exited the IPL under controversial circumstances.
On Tuesday (April 14), the PSL governing body confirmed that Muzarabani would be barred from participating in the next two editions of the tournament.
In an official statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board said: “Following a thorough disciplinary review, Zimbabwean cricketer Blessing Muzarabani is declared ineligible to participate in the next two (2) editions of the HBL PSL, effective immediately.”
The statement further emphasized that the decision was taken due to a breach of contractual obligations. “Professional cricket operates on trust and the certainty of agreements. In this case, despite a clear offer and the player’s acceptance of key terms, those commitments were not honored, as he chose to pursue a conflicting opportunity.”
This is not the first instance of such action being taken. Last year, Corbin Bosch left the PSL midway to join Mumbai Indians in the IPL and was subsequently banned from the league, although his suspension lasted for only one season. In contrast, Muzarabani’s ban extends to two years, indicating a stricter stance.
Two more players, Dasun Shanaka and Spencer Johnson, have also withdrawn from PSL 2026 to take part in the IPL. Based on the precedent set by recent decisions, they could potentially face similar disciplinary measures. So far, Muzarabani has featured in two matches for Kolkata Knight Riders this season, picking up four wickets and making an immediate impact despite the controversy surrounding his move.
