Shaheen Afridi likely captaincy against Afghanistan in T20I

According to sources, selection committee is considering to rest some experienced players, including Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi may replace him as a Captain.

Lahore, 10 March 2023 (GNP): Shaheen Shah Afridi is most likely to replace Baber Azam as Captain for T20I series against Afghanistan.

According to sources, the Haroon Rasheed-led selection committee is considering to rest some experienced players, including current all-format captain Babar Azam and wicket keeper Mohammad Rizwan. The goal is to develop a team for the T20 World Cup 2024 by giving chance to Young players.

Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, Ihsanullah, Saim Ayub, and Osama Mir are some of the players being considered for the national squad owing to their outstanding achievements in the current Pakistan Super League (PSL).

On Thursday, the three-match T20I schedule between Pakistan and Afghanistan was revised.

Earlier, the matches were set to be played from March 25 to March 29 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. However, they will now take place from March 24 to March 27.

Afghanistan Cricket Board said in a statement:

“Together, the boards of the Afghanistan Cricket Board and Pakistan Cricket Board have decided to make a few minor adjustments to the schedule for Afghanistan’s three-match T2OI series against Pakistan at home. The first game of the series will now begin on March 24, and the final two games will now be played on March 26 and 27 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates”. 

Revised Schedule:

March 24: 1st T20I, Sharjah

March 26: 2nd T20I, Sharjah

March 27: 3rd T20I, Sharjah
