Shaheen Afridi puts on exhibition of bowling Yorkers

The left-arm pacer strikes in first over and gave his team the perfect start in defending a target of 199 given by Quetta Gladiators.

Karachi, 21 February 2023 (GNP): On Tuesday night in the HBL Pakistan Super League, Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi put on a display of scorching Yorkers against Quetta Gladiators. The left-arm pacer strikes in the first over and gives his team the perfect start in defending a target of 199 given by Quetta Gladiators. When this left-arm attacker has the new ball, that front pad is constantly in jeopardy.

Shaheen Afridi caught Quetta’s opener, Bangalzai, with a fiery in-swinging Yorker. The newly arrived batsman was out for a duck.

“They are world-class batters up there. Even if they know what’s coming, they can not do much with that. That’s red hot Shaheen Shah Afridi,” commentators on fiery Shaheen Afridi opening spell vs. Quetta.

Shaheen kept it simple after Bangalzai was dismissed. Run straight in and strike the blockhole.

Shaheen delivered a full delivery on the leg stump that was shaped back into Jason Roy extremely late in the same over. An appeal was made by the left-arm pacer, but it was denied. The captain of the Qalandars didn’t believe him and took the review. However, the assessment revealed that it was somewhat outside of the leg stump.

With a yorker on off stump to begin his second over, Shaheen was able to catch Guptill just in time. Shaheen took the catch of Odean Smith and also dismissed Qais Ahmed to finish with three wickets while conceding 22 runs in 4overs.

Shaheen Shah Afridi, in the post-match ceremony, “According to me, we wanted to check our departments after the last game and Rashid’s inclusion has further strengthened us. We felt anything over 170 was a good score. Credit to the youngster Tahir Baig for dealing with bowlers like Hasnain and our wishes to Shai Hope, who is leaving us tomorrow and we congratulate him for West Indies’ captaincy. Overall very happy with our bowlers today. My job is to give early breakthroughs from the last 5-6 years, whether as a skipper or as a bowler, and I felt the ball swung early on today and that’s why bowled a lot fuller”.

After tonight’s match, Lahore Qalandars, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, moved up from the bottom of the scorecard to the top half.
