Martyrdom anniversary of Major Muhammad Akram being observed today

Rawalpindi : Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff & Chief of Defence Forces; Admiral Naveed Ashraf, NI, NI (M), Chief of the Naval Staff; and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, NI (M), HJ, Chief of the Air Staff, on behalf of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, solemnly commemorate the 54th Shahadat anniversary of Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider.

Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, while leading a company of the 4 Frontier Force Regiment in the Hilli sector (East Pakistan), displayed exceptional courage and tenacity during1971. On 19 May 1971, he resolutely held his defensive position, denying the enemy any tactical advantage. Later, on 3 December 1971, he was tasked to launch an assault on heavily fortified enemy positions. With unwavering resolve, he destroyed three enemy tanks during the advance, fighting valiantly until he sustained severe injuries. He embraced Shahadat on 5 December 1971, exemplifying the highest ideals of bravery and devotion to duty.

The immortal heroism of Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Pakistan’s Armed Forces. His sacrifice continues to inspire generations and reinforces the enduring commitment of our forces to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland.

On this solemn day, the Armed Forces reaffirm their resolve to honour the legacy of all martyrs who laid down their lives for Pakistan. The nation remains eternally proud of its courageous sons, whose sacrifices are etched forever in our history.
