Key Urban Facilities to Be Shifted to Ring Road Corridor.
Rawalpindi : A special meeting was held under the chairpersonship of the Director General, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Kinza Murtaza, during which important decisions were taken regarding the future urban planning and development strategy of the Rawalpindi city.
During the meeting, it was decided that an RDA Hospital will be established at Jhanda Chichi Road Rawalpindi, to provide modern, accessible, and improved healthcare facilities to the general public.
The DG RDA emphasized that the new hospital will help ease the burden on existing health facilities and ensure that residents receive quality medical services in a timely manner.
The meeting further resolved that large markets, including wholesale fruit and vegetable markets, transport terminals, educational institutions, and industrial units will be located on zones along Ring Road Rawalpindi. This strategic initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion, curb environmental pollution, and minimize increasing urban pressure on densely populated areas of the city. The relocation will also support balanced urban growth, improved mobility, and better land utilization.
The DG RDA directed the Engineering Directorate, Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering Directorate, Estate Management Directorate, and Land Development Directorate to identify and allocate suitable spaces along the Ring Road corridor for these facilities. She added that all transport terminals will be shifted to the starting and ending points of the Ring Road on G.T. Road and the Motorway to streamline intercity and intracity traffic flow.
She further stated that major educational institutions will be relocated to newly developed, purpose built campuses equipped with improved infrastructure, ensuring students a conducive learning environment. The DG RDA also assured that the health sector will be given dedicated zones, enabling the establishment of large hospitals, pharmacies, diagnostic centers, and medical laboratories to enhance healthcare outreach for the residents of Rawalpindi.
Director Engineering Muhammad Anwar Baran, Director Administration Iftikhar Ali, Director Land Ghazanfar Ali Awan, Director Estate Management Ms. Aabgeena, Director Finance Dawood Khalid, Director MP&TE Atif Mahmood Chaudhry, and other RDA officers attended the meeting.
