Zakharova Confirms Foreign Nationals Killed in Ukraine Attack

Moscow (GNP): Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s statement on the death of foreign nationals in the terrorist attack by Ukrainian militants on Nizhnekamsk on 10 August 2026.

The terrorist attack by the Kiev regime against civilian sites in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, on August 10 resulted in at least 13 fatalities, most of them foreign nationals.

According to preliminary reports, the victims included eight citizens of Uzbekistan and one citizen of Tajikistan. Approximately 20 foreign nationals were wounded.

The Kiev neo-Nazis deliberately targeted facilities where people from our friendly countries live and work, aiming to drive a wedge between our nations and undermine our brotherly relations.

Zakharova said that the terrorist attacks perpetrated by Ukrainian militants have claimed the lives of not only Russian civilians, but also foreign nationals.

We express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wish speedy recovery to the wounded.

The Russian Foreign Ministry calls on all members of the international community to condemn the barbaric crimes of the Ukrainian Nazis.

Ukraine Drone Attack on Nizhnekamsk:

The attack on Nizhnekamsk was carried out using Ukrainian drones, which struck the city’s Tanevo oil refinery, according to Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Local Russian officials said at least 13 people were killed and 75 injured in the strike, making it one of the deadliest single attacks on Russian territory since the start of the full-scale war in 2022. The strike lasted several hours, continuing overnight into the following morning, and images circulating on social media showed large plumes of smoke and flames rising into the sky as air raid sirens sounded in the background.

This was not the first time the Nizhnekamsk refinery had come under attack, the facility was previously struck once before, on June 12. Kyiv has recently intensified its long-range strikes on Russian territory, increasingly targeting refineries, warehouses and energy infrastructure that it says generate revenue and support logistics for Russia’s war effort.

Ukraine’s Centre for Countering Disinformation head Andriy Kovalenko defended the pattern of strikes, saying the facilities targeted are used to carry out attacks against Ukraine, manufacture weapons and sustain the broader war effort, and argued that responsibility for any resulting civilian deaths in Russia lies with President Vladimir Putin and the decisions made within Russia itself.

Russian officials said more than 450 Ukrainian drones were shot down by air defences overnight across the country as part of the same wave of strikes, while a separate incident saw fires break out in Siberia’s Tyumen region after an industrial facility was hit by falling drones.

The Nizhnekamsk strike reflects a broader trend of Kyiv’s growing reach and effectiveness in carrying out long-range attacks deep inside Russian territory, a shift that has been accompanied by mounting civilian casualties on both sides of the conflict.
