Wrestler Inam Butt Faces Possible Ban After Failed Dope Test

Lahore (GNP): Pakistani wrestler Inam Butt has tested positive for doping following a sample collected during the Asian Beach Games held in China in April, raising the prospect of a ban should the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) remain unsatisfied with his explanation for the result. The two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist now finds himself in discussions with anti-doping authorities as he seeks to clarify the circumstances behind the positive test.

According to sources close to the wrestler, Inam had taken medication for an eye-related treatment ahead of the Games, and the substance was not connected to performance enhancement. The sources said Inam had informed WADA of the medication used, submitting his medical scans and a doctor’s prescription as supporting evidence, and claimed the agency had granted him permission to use the medication for a period of one year.

With the review process between Inam and anti-doping authorities still under way, a final decision on any sanction is expected only once discussions conclude. The outcome carries significance beyond his personal career, given his additional role as Secretary of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF), a position that places him within the sport’s administrative leadership in the country.

Inam, a former World Beach Games champion, has built his reputation on major international podiums, making the pending WADA decision a closely watched matter for Pakistani wrestling as the federation awaits clarity on his status.
