Islamabad, May 20, 2026: The World Health Organization (WHO) holds its 79th World Health Assembly, marking a significant moment in global healthcare advancement, awarding six distinguished individuals and institutions with honor. They were rewarded with public health prizes for their exceptional services to humanity and their commitment to achieving “Health For All.” The prestigious ceremony, organized by the World Health Organization, celebrated groundbreaking achievements in public health, health promotion, healthy aging, disease prevention, and healthcare innovation and betterment in the health sectors.
The awards ceremony recognized leaders with transforming work for communities and improving the quality of life for millions around the world highlighting the growing vitality of international cooperation in addressing modern health challenges.
The honorees represented diverse regions and specialties, featuring the global nature of public health progress and the collective effort required to strengthen healthcare systems worldwide.
According to the official announcement released during the World Health Assembly, the Sasakawa Health Prize, the United Arab Emirates Health Foundation Prize, the State of Kuwait Health Promotion Foundation’s His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize for the Promotion of Healthy Aging, the Dr LEE Jong-wook Memorial Prize for Public Health, and the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion were the awards presented this year.
These annual public health prizes are among the most respected recognitions in global healthcare. They acknowledge individuals, organizations, and institutions that have showcased extraordinarily exceptional dedication to improving health outcomes, promoting equitable healthcare access, and addressing some of the world’s most pressing medical and social challenges.
