Telephone Call between Afghan and Chinese Foreign Ministers – GNP

KABUL : Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Haneef Atmar, had a telephonic conversation with the Foreign Minister of People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi. Both the sides discussed issues of mutual interests including those pertaining to bilateral relations, security, economic and health cooperation.

At the outset, Minister Atmar thanked the government of China for its generous medical support in the fight against Covid-19 and discussed further cooperation in this regard. He went on to discuss the importance of economic cooperation, Road and Belt Initiative, joint counter terrorism efforts, the Afghan Peace Process and the role that China will have in creating regional consensus around it. He further elaborated upon his expectation regarding China’s support to humanitarian ceasefire, immediate beginning of the intra Afghan peace talks and the exchange of the prisoners between the Taliban and the Afghan government.

Minister Yi congratulated Minister Atmar for assuming office as the Foreign Minister and assured him of his government’s support on the issues raised. He informed Minister Atmar of his government’s readiness to cooperate on economic issues, joint counter terrorism efforts and establishment of regional consensus regarding the Afghan Peace Process.

The meeting concluded on a note of hope for a sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
