2nd June 2020(GNP): UAE FM Anwar Gargash said that Israel’s plan to annex occupied West Bank would have grave repercussions for the peace process. Israeli FM Netanyahu has announced to begin cabinet discussions on annexation plan following Trump’s self-proclaimed “Deal of the century” whereby the West Bank would be annexed into Israel. The deal was explicitly rejected by most of the Middle East and Gulf countries and called it to be a threat to the peace process between Israel and Palestine. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said in a post in twitter
“Any unilateral Israeli move will be a serious setback for the peace process, undermine self-determination and constitute a rejection of the international and Arab consensus towards peace and stability.”
Like most of Arab countries, UAE also altered its strategy by making formal relations with Israel and endorsing the peace process between Israel and Palestine. Anwar Gargash last year prioritized peace talks over resistance and advocated the development of formal ties between UAE and Isreal. (GNP)
