Islamabad (GNP): The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad launched its “Let Freedom Ring” Liberty Bell exhibit at the Lok Virsa Museum, with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Andy Halus and Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi both attending the ceremony.
Speaking at the launch, And Halus reflected on the shared values between Pakistan and the United States, describing a mutual belief in the power of artistic expression and the freedom to imagine a better future. He noted that Lok Virsa has long served as a space preserving that spirit within Pakistan, and expressed pride in bringing America’s own story of freedom into the venue.
He spoke about the historical significance of the original Liberty Bell — cast in 1752 and housed in Philadelphia — which played a notable role in the American Revolution and rang to commemorate milestones such as the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787.
He described the bell as an enduring symbol of American ideals including freedom, justice, and equality, also referencing its connection to later chapters in American history, including the abolition of slavery.
He noted the fitting setting of the Lincoln Corner, a space dedicated to promoting understanding of American values including freedom of speech, and highlighted the contributions of American diplomats from Philadelphia in strengthening the broader U.S.-Pakistan relationship.
A Collaborative Cultural Project
The exhibit marks the culmination of a cultural initiative between the U.S. Mission to Pakistan and Pakistani artists nationwide, organized to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Through its Public Diplomacy Section and Lincoln Corners network, the mission partnered with 16 Pakistani artists to create individually painted replicas of the Liberty Bell, each responding to the prompt: “What does freedom mean to me?”
The result is a set of 16 distinct, vibrantly designed bells offering personal Pakistani interpretations of a concept central to America’s founding story.
Exhibition Details
The display will run from July 23 to July 27, 2026, at two prominent cultural venues in Islamabad — the Lok Virsa Museum and the Pakistan Monument Museum — with the public invited to visit both locations throughout the five-day period.
Minister Khichi welcomed the initiative as a reflection of the strong ties between Pakistan and the United States, emphasizing the role of art and cultural exchange in strengthening bilateral relations.

The “Let Freedom Ring” display is part of the U.S. Mission Pakistan’s broader Freedom 250 campaign, a year-long global initiative marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence through programming centered on freedom, innovation, and cultural exchange.
