9.5 tonnes of cocaine packed in banana carates was found at port of Algericas

Madrid, 25th August 2023, (GNP)  Police and Customs officials on Friday announced the capture of 9.5 tonnes of cocaine. The reported shipments have been captured in the area of Algeciras. Cocaine was packed in Banana crates that were being transported from Ecuador through the port of Algeciras.

Spanish police on Friday announced capturing about 9.5 tonnes of cocaine at the port of Algeciras. The shipment from  Ecuador was a refrigerated container full of banana crates.

Reportedly,  the customs officials found the container at the Port in the Bay of Gibraltar in  Andalusia, Spain.  This is a record in Spain, that a single container is catched with such an enormous amount of cocaine.

Hence the officials stated it was an unprecedented blow to the criminal organizations, targeting the criminal networks. According to police authorities, the packages inside the container were marked with 30 different types of logos.

These packages were aimed to be distributed among different criminal rings operating in Europe. However, the authorities have yet to disclose any information about the criminal gangs associated with the capture.

Since its capture, the authorities have only revealed that a banana-importing company in Ecuador is behind the smuggling. They are able to transport up to 40 containers in a month, some of them containing drugs.

Although, the tonnes of cocaine captured is one of the most recent successful raids by Spanish police against drug distributors.

In April, the Spanish and Swedish Police raided a cannabis and marijuana cultivation facility. The Joint operation resulted in 19 arrests which were supported by Europol. Last year in October, an outdoor lab was raided near Madrid that was capable of producing 12o kilograms of cocaine a week, Police verified.
