Birmingham, 14 July, 2023 (GNP): England cricket team’s captain Ben Stokes has named Stuart Broad in his team for the first Ashes Test against Australia at Edgbaston on Friday.
Broad, who has taken 582 wickets in 162 Tests, was dropped for the third and final Test against New Zealand in March. However, he has been in good form for Nottinghamshire in County Championship cricket, taking 21 wickets in his last three matches.
“Stuart is a world-class bowler and he deserves his place in the team,” said Stokes. “He has been bowling really well for Nottinghamshire and he is a big part of our plans for this series.”
Broad will partner James Anderson in the England attack, with Chris Woakes and Mark Wood also in contention for the third seamer’s spot.
The first Ashes Test starts at Edgbaston in Birmingham, England on Friday, with the series also scheduled to be played at Lord’s in London, Headingley in Leeds, Old Trafford in Manchester and The Oval in London.
