Islamabad (GNP) :- Rwanda High Commission in Pakistan has announced the observance of Kwibuka 32, marking the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi, a tragedy that claimed the lives of more than one million people.
Observed annually on April 7, Kwibuka is a period of national mourning in Rwanda, during which citizens and the global community reflect on the atrocities and honour the victims.
This year’s theme, “Remember – Unite – Renew,” emphasizes collective remembrance, solidarity with survivors, and a renewed commitment to preventing genocide worldwide.
In an official statement, the High Commission highlighted that the commemoration serves not only as a tribute to those who lost their lives but also as recognition of the role played by the Rwanda Patriotic Army in ending the genocide and stabilizing the country.
It also underscores Rwanda’s ongoing journey toward unity and rebuilding under the vision often referred to as “The Rwanda We Want.”
The statement further called on media organizations and the international community to observe the occasion with dignity and reflection. It stressed the importance of countering genocide denial and confronting extremist ideologies that continue to pose threats globally.
Kwibuka remains a solemn reminder of one of the darkest chapters in modern history, while also symbolizing resilience and the enduring pursuit of peace and reconciliation.
