Merit-driven reforms bring down crime rate in Hafizabad

HAFIZABAD   (GNP) : Hafizabad Police, under the leadership of District Police Officer (DPO) Kamran Hamid, have reported a significant decline in crime following the introduction of merit-based reforms and improved policing strategies.

According to officials, key appointments, including those of Station House Officers (SHOs), have been made strictly on merit through a structured interview process, in line with directives issued by the Government of Punjab. The move is aimed at strengthening institutional performance, ensuring transparency, and restoring public confidence in the police.

Officers have been directed to uphold the rule of law, deliver efficient public services, and remain free from external influence.

In a notable step towards gender inclusion, Sub-Inspector Maham Zahra has been appointed as SHO of Jalalpur Bhattian Police Station. The appointment is being viewed as a positive development in promoting the role of women in policing and fostering a more inclusive institutional culture.

Police data indicates a marked improvement in law and order. Incidents of dacoity have been eliminated, while robbery cases have declined by 50 per cent. The overall crime rate has dropped by 20 per cent. Motorcycle theft has decreased by 40 per cent, and cases of motorcycle snatching have been reduced to zero.

During the past four months, police arrested 3,363 suspects, including 708 proclaimed offenders. In operations against illegal arms, 210 individuals were taken into custody and weapons were recovered. Similarly, 249 suspected drug traffickers were apprehended during targeted crackdowns.

Efforts to curb organised crime led to the arrest of 948 individuals involved in dacoity and theft, including 55 members of 19 criminal gangs. Stolen property worth over Rs114.6 million was recovered and returned to its owners.

Further measures have been introduced to improve police station culture, strengthen community policing, and enhance public engagement. Officials said modern investigative techniques are being adopted, while challans are being submitted to courts promptly to ensure swift and affordable justice.

Comprehensive security arrangements were also put in place during Ramazan, Eidul Fitr, and other important occasions.

Meanwhile, the Complaint Cell addressed 2,160 public grievances through prompt action, reflecting a focus on citizen service. Additionally, Police Khidmat Marakaz provided services to 43,860 citizens under one roof over the past four months.

DPO Kamran Hamid reiterated that the primary objective of the police remains the prevention of crime, protection of life and property, and the promotion of a peaceful society through proactive and professional policing.
