PM Reaffirms Commitment to Pakistan-China Strategic Partnership

Islamabad (GNP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to its All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with China.

Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong met with the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister House. Also present were Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch.

The Prime Minister passed along his warm greetings to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, reaffirming the strength of the Pakistan-China partnership while recalling his May visit to China. He said both countries would continue collaborating closely to carry out the key agreements and decisions reached between their leaderships, for the shared benefit of both nations’ people.

The meeting also touched on regional matters, including the situations in the Middle East, Afghanistan, and South Asia.

The Chinese Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting, describing Pakistan as an “iron brother” and affirming China’s continued support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and socio-economic progress.

75 Years of Diplomatic Ties

This year, 2026, marks 75 years since Pakistan and China established diplomatic relations — a long-standing partnership that has grown into a benchmark for trust-based, all-weather cooperation internationally. The anniversary offers a chance to look back on a relationship built on resilience, strategic clarity, and mutual respect even as global conditions shift. What began as principled diplomatic recognition has grown into a wide-ranging partnership marked by consistency, dependability, and shared strategic goals.

On the strategic front, the relationship now spans defense cooperation, regional stability efforts, and joint responses to global challenges, all grounded in shared values of peace, sovereignty, and non-interference — contributing to both regional balance and wider international cooperation.

Economically, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor continues to serve as a major driver of change, boosting connectivity, infrastructure, energy security, and industrial development in Pakistan while supporting broader regional integration — part of a larger vision centered on mutual benefit and long-term sustainability.

The relationship also runs deep at the societal level, sustained by educational exchange, cultural connections, and enduring goodwill between the two peoples that go beyond formal government ties. Looking forward, new areas such as green development, digital innovation, agriculture, and public health offer fresh opportunities for cooperation.

These reflections draw on discussions among scholars, diplomats, and experts, capturing key insights into how the Pakistan-China relationship has evolved. The overarching takeaway: partnerships built on mutual respect, trust, and common purpose remain both valuable and attainable even in today’s complicated global landscape.
