PIACL Board Approves Bonus for PIA Employees

KARACHI (GNP): 102nd Board Meeting — the first since the airline transitioned to private management — the Board of Directors of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) approved a performance bonus equal to one month’s basic salary for all airline staff.

The move signals the new leadership’s early focus on investing in its workforce and aligning employees with the airline’s broader plans for transformation and growth.

Management explained that the bonus is meant to acknowledge staff dedication while boosting morale ahead of upcoming operational goals, route expansions, and service upgrades.

The Chairman of the Board said the airline’s employees are central to PIACL’s turnaround, adding that focusing on staff wellbeing and motivation right from the start lays the groundwork for a culture built on excellence, accountability, and financial sustainability as the airline works to restore its standing as the national carrier.

The decision is seen as a positive signal from the new management, setting an early direction toward more reliable operations, stronger customer service, and long-term corporate growth.

PIA has set its sights on becoming a globally competitive, profitable airline known for excellent service, punctuality, innovative offerings, and a strong safety record.

To help achieve this, the airline says its teams will focus on delivering quality customer service and new products, adopting modern technology, keeping procurement and operations cost-efficient, and building a stronger safety culture across the organization.

PIACL was established on January 10, 1955, under the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Ordinance of that year. That ordinance was later replaced by the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Act of 1956.

Under the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) Act of 2016, PIACL transitioned from a statutory corporation into a public limited company as of April 19, 2016.

As part of the government’s broader plan to restructure PIACL financially and corporately, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan approved a Scheme of Arrangement effective April 30, 2024.

Under this scheme, PIACL transferred certain non-core assets along with legacy liabilities and obligations to PIA Holding Company Limited (PIAHCL). As a result, PIACL was delisted from the Pakistan Stock Exchange and became a fully owned subsidiary of PIA Holding Company Limited.
