Pakistan will co-chair UN Conference for Flood Relief

The meeting's attendees talked about the future conference, called the "International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan," which will take place in Geneva on January 9, 2023.

Islamabad, 29 December 2022 (GNP): In order to get humanitarian relief after disastrous floods earlier this year left more than 1,700 people dead and severely destroyed Pakistan’s essential infrastructure, Pakistan will co-chair a UN conference the following month.

Ishaq Dar, the minister of finance, presided over an interministerial meeting at the donors’ conference in the finance division to go through the agenda. The meeting’s attendees talked about the future conference, called the “International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan,” which will take place in Geneva on January 9, 2023.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Finance Division, the conference that the government of Pakistan and the UN are co-hosting aims to attract international support for the Pakistani people and government in their efforts to rebuild a climate-resilient Pakistan following the devastating floods of 2022.

The summit, according to the finance ministry, will also seek to garner international humanitarian assistance for plans for post-flood recovery and reconstruction.

Flash floods occurred all throughout the nation in mid-June as a result of unusually severe monsoon rainfall. At one point, one-third of the nation was submerged in water, and several harvests were destroyed by the floods.

Pakistan calculates that the floods have caused over $30 billion in losses. Pakistan has requested assistance from the international community in order to cover the costs of flood-related damages.
