Pakistan, Egypt Agree to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation

ISLAMABAD (GNP): In a significant move to strengthen bilateral security ties, Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to expand cooperation between their interior ministries, with a strong focus on joint police training, counter-terrorism, and modern security systems.

The understanding was reached during a high-level meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and a visiting Egyptian delegation led by Major General Magdy Helena here Saturday. The delegation also included Brigadier Essam Abu Al-Khair, Brigadier Engineer Mohammad Razi and Brigadier Dr. Mohammad Munir.

During detailed discussions, both sides explored avenues to enhance cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics, cybercrime, and Safe City technologies. A key point of agreement was expanding collaboration between Pakistan’s National Police Academy and Egypt’s Police Academy, paving the way for structured joint training programs for officers of both nations.

He noted that enhanced cooperation between the two interior ministries would not only boost institutional capacities but also reinforce long-term bilateral relations.

Minister of State Talal Chaudhry highlighted the broad scope for collaboration, particularly in counter-terrorism, internal security, and counter-narcotics. He said both countries could gain significantly by sharing expertise and operational experiences.

The Egyptian delegation praised its visits to key Pakistani institutions, including the Anti-Narcotics Force and the National Police Academy, calling them “highly productive.” They noted that Egypt and Pakistan, facing similar security challenges, stood to benefit greatly from each other’s best practices.

Mohsin Naqvi also conveyed his best wishes to his Egyptian counterpart, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. The meeting was attended by the Federal Interior Secretary and other senior officials.

The renewed engagement underscores Islamabad and Cairo’s shared resolve to modernize policing, improve security coordination, and deepen strategic cooperation in an increasingly complex global security landscape.
