Pakistan Embassy in Moscow Hosts 80th Independence Day Reception

Moscow (GNP): The Embassy of Pakistan in Moscow hosted a reception to mark Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day, drawing around 250 guests, including senior Russian government officials, diplomats, academics, media representatives, and members of the Pakistani community. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin attended the event as chief guest, underscoring the significance Moscow continues to attach to its relationship with Islamabad.

Addressing the gathering, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi welcomed the rapid growth in bilateral relations between the two countries, noting substantial potential for expanding cooperation in trade, regional connectivity, education, tourism and culture.

He highlighted Pakistan’s interest in the International North-South Transport Corridor, pointing to the potential for linking the corridor with Pakistan’s ports at Karachi and Gwadar.

The ambassador also stressed the importance of further strengthening people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Russia.

In his remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister Galuzin conveyed congratulations to the people of Pakistan on behalf of the Russian government and people. He praised Pakistan’s role in regional and global affairs, specifically highlighting Islamabad’s mediation efforts during the recent Gulf crisis as well as Pakistan’s contributions to the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Galuzin added that cooperation between Russia and Pakistan continues to expand across multiple sectors, including trade, regional connectivity, industry, pharmaceuticals and education.

A major highlight of the reception was a vibrant presentation of Pakistani culture and music. Internationally acclaimed Pakistani folk band Khumariyaan entertained guests with a live performance, while Pride of Performance award-winning violinist Master Raees Khan also showcased his musical talent.

Russian officials, foreign diplomats and other attendees enjoyed Pakistani music and traditional cuisine throughout the event.

The reception ultimately served as a showcase of Pakistani culture and a reflection of the steadily growing friendly relations between Pakistan and Russia, reinforcing the diplomatic and cultural ties both countries have sought to deepen in recent years.
