MDCAT is Pakistan’s standardized annual entrance exam for admission into undergraduate medical (MBBS) and dental (BDS) programs.

It replaced individual provincial medical entrance exams starting in 2020. Following the dissolution of the Pakistan Medical Commission in 2023, the exam reverted to a provincial structure, with each province designating a university to administer the test — the University of Health Sciences Lahore for Punjab, Khyber Medical University for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences for Balochistan.

Regulated by PM&DC, the exam assesses candidates’ knowledge and aptitude in core science subjects and is a mandatory requirement for medical and dental college admission in Pakistan, regardless of a student’s academic performance in FSc or A-Levels.

The test is highly competitive, with a large pool of applicants competing for a limited number of seats each year, requiring strong conceptual understanding and problem-solving ability.
