Islamabad (GNP): The High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad convened its annual alumni engagement programme, bringing together graduates of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) and Malaysian universities under the theme “Malaysia–Pakistan Relations in a Changing Regional Landscape: Opportunities and Challenges.”
The gathering drew a diverse cross-section of participants including former MTCP trainees, alumni of Malaysian academic institutions, government representatives, academics, media professionals, and policy analysts, all convening to examine current regional developments and their broader implications for the Malaysia–Pakistan bilateral relationship.
Delivering the welcome address, High Commissioner Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan spoke to the enduring value of MTCP as one of Malaysia’s cornerstone initiatives for fostering capacity building, facilitating knowledge exchange, and advancing South-South cooperation among developing nations.
He pointed to Pakistan’s substantial presence within this network, noting that nearly 850 Pakistanis have participated in MTCP while tens of thousands more hold degrees from Malaysian institutions — together forming a significant and active community that continues to strengthen ties between the two countries.
“This annual gathering reflects our dedication to staying closely connected with friends and partners who have studied, trained, and forged lasting bonds with Malaysia,” the High Commissioner remarked. “Beyond their professional and academic connections, these individuals serve as living bridges between our two nations, playing a meaningful role in deepening mutual understanding and expanding cooperation.”
He further described this alumni network as one of the most robust people-to-people foundations underpinning Malaysia–Pakistan relations — a community whose influence and potential continue to grow across multiple sectors.

The programme also featured a structured forum in which prominent Pakistani experts and MTCP and university alumni engaged in candid exchanges on shifting regional dynamics, emerging bilateral opportunities, and the challenges facing deeper cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan. Conversations ranged across themes of regional stability, economic collaboration, evolving policy landscapes, and contemporary geopolitical currents.
Participants also turned their attention to regional security considerations, affirming the importance of sustained dialogue, diplomatic engagement, and the peaceful settlement of disputes. Considerable discussion was devoted to specific regional developments and their cascading economic and geopolitical consequences.
Concluding the event, the High Commission reaffirmed Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to deepening educational, technical, and interpersonal cooperation with Pakistan, pledging continued engagement with the alumni network as a vital partner in the ongoing advancement of bilateral relations.
