Kyrgyzstan (GNP): President Sadyr Japarov extended a formal welcome to President Asif Ali Zardari at the Rukh Ordo Cultural Complex in Cholpon-Ata, where the Pakistani leader received a warm reception upon arrival.
The ceremony featured the playing of both nations’ national anthems, followed by a Guard of Honour presented by Kyrgyz military personnel, which President Zardari inspected. The two leaders then introduced their accompanying delegations to each other.
Bilateral Cooperation and Follow-Up on Prior Agreements
Both presidents reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, stressing the importance of following through on commitments made during President Japarov’s state visit to Pakistan the previous December. They agreed on the need to maintain active political engagement, broaden official exchanges at senior levels, and deepen institutional cooperation across parliaments, governments, and foreign ministries.
The leaders directed their respective governments and ministries to accelerate implementation of existing agreements and pursue concrete steps to boost trade, investment, and business partnerships. They also called for strengthening inter-agency coordination, particularly by improving the functioning of the Kyrgyz-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and its associated working groups, while pledging government backing for stronger business-to-business ties.
Energy, Trade and Sector-Specific Cooperation
Energy cooperation featured prominently in talks, with both sides emphasizing the need to speed up work on the CASA-1000 project, a key infrastructure link between Central and South Asia.
The two countries also identified substantial opportunities for collaboration in mining, agriculture, textiles, halal industry, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals — the latter including medical education, regulatory alignment, vaccine production, and joint ventures, with plans to ease market access through closer coordination between drug regulators. Additional areas of interest included halal sector standards, digital economy initiatives, ICT, tourism, and banking.
On transport and logistics, the leaders emphasized following through on existing commitments and taking further steps to boost cargo volumes and support smoother operation of transit routes. They also expressed interest in deepening people-to-people ties through education, science, culture, tourism, youth programs, and healthcare exchanges, including collaboration on medical education standards.
Security and Regional Stability
On security matters, both nations agreed to enhance cooperation against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, organized crime, illegal migration, and cybercrime. Condemning terrorism in the region and globally, the leaders stressed that regional peace and stability are essential for progress, and committed to joint action through the UN, SCO, and OIC.
Discussing global affairs, the leaders criticized unilateral economic sanctions as inconsistent with the UN Charter, warning that such measures undermine global food and energy security and hinder progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
UN Security Council and Middle East Mediation
President Japarov thanked Pakistan for backing Kyrgyzstan’s bid for a non-permanent UN Security Council seat for 2027-2028, and President Zardari congratulated Kyrgyzstan on winning the seat. In turn, Kyrgyzstan praised Pakistan’s record during its own 2025-2026 Security Council term, citing the adoption of Resolution 2788 (2025) on peaceful dispute resolution and Resolution 2823 (2026) on accountability for crimes against UN peacekeepers.
Kyrgyzstan also commended Pakistan’s mediation role in Middle East diplomacy, welcoming the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and expressing hope it would help build lasting regional peace.
The leaders called for urgent, peaceful resolution of ongoing disputes in line with UN Charter principles rather than unilateral action, agreeing that regional security is essential to unlocking the full potential of Central-South Asian connectivity.
Nomad Games Invitation and Closing Remarks
Kyrgyzstan invited Pakistan to take part in the VI World Nomad Games, set for August 31 to September 7, 2026, an invitation Pakistan accepted, confirming it would send a delegation and athletes.
President Zardari thanked the Kyrgyz people and President Japarov for their hospitality and invited him to visit Pakistan — an invitation Japarov accepted, with travel dates to be confirmed later.
