Gilani Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Pak-Italy Relations

Islamabad (GNP): Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding and friendly relations with Italy during an informal discussion with Italy’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin, at a reception marking the 80th National Day of the Italian Republic.

Extending congratulations to the Government and people of Italy on behalf of the Senate and people of Pakistan, he described Italy as a trusted friend and emphasized that bilateral ties are built on mutual respect, shared interests, and cooperation on regional and international issues.

The Chairman Senate highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, growing trade and investment, and appreciated Italy’s support for Pakistan’s GSP+ status and development cooperation in healthcare, education, and sanitation.

Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani also commended Ambassador Marilina Armellin for her efforts in promoting bilateral relations and expressed confidence that Pakistan Italy friendship and cooperation would continue to grow in the years ahead.

The celebrations marked Italy’s 80th National Day and were hosted by the Italian Embassy.

The evening opened with the national anthems of both countries and concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, in which Ambassador Armellin was joined by Federal Minister for Energy Ali Pervaiz Malik, the chief guest of the event, along with a distinguished gathering that included Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Defence Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif, Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.

Speaking as chief guest, Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said Pakistan and Italy share common values and objectives, and noted that the two countries have sustained diplomatic relations for 78 years.

He expressed optimism that growing Pakistan-EU strategic engagement would encourage greater Italian investment interest in Pakistan.
