Gilani Pays Tribute to Parents on Global Day

Islamabad (GNP): Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, on the occasion of Global Day of Parents, paid rich tribute to parents for their unconditional love, sacrifices, and lifelong guidance in shaping individuals and strengthening societies.

In his message, the Chairman of the Senate said that parents are the foundation of strong families and prosperous nations, whose care, wisdom, and devotion play a vital role in nurturing future generations.

He emphasized that Islam accords a special and elevated status to parents, repeatedly stressing kindness, respect, and obedience towards them. Referring to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an, he noted that Allah Almighty has commanded believers to treat their parents with compassion and humility, and to speak to them with kindness and dignity.

The Chairman Senate said that caring for parents, particularly in their old age, is not only a moral responsibility but also a religious obligation. He added that the teachings of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) highlight that serving parents is among the greatest acts of virtue and a source of blessings, mercy, and success in both this world and the hereafter.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani emphasized the importance of respecting, supporting, and valuing parents, adding that a society rooted in strong family values is key to national progress, unity, and social harmony.

Senate Chairman urged the nation, particularly the younger generation, to express gratitude and appreciation toward parents, acknowledge their sacrifices, and uphold the values of love, care, patience, and selfless service, in line with Pakistan’s rich cultural traditions and the noble teachings of Islam.

He emphasized that honoring parents strengthens the family institution, which he described as the cornerstone of a compassionate, stable, and prosperous society.

The Global Day of Parents was established in 2012, when the United Nations General Assembly officially designated June 1 as an annual observance to celebrate parents worldwide. The day recognises the unwavering commitment and devotion of parents in fulfilling their fundamental role of raising children.

The observance is part of a broader United Nations framework that includes the International Year of the Family and the International Day of Families, collectively reinforcing the global importance of family values and parental responsibility.

Global Day of Parents: Celebrating Families and Children’s Rights

The day carries a clear and purposeful mandate, to promote and uphold the fundamental rights of children and families. These rights include freedom from poverty, access to quality education, the assurance of health and well-being, and the guarantee of gender equality for every child, regardless of their background or circumstance.

This year, the observance holds particular significance. The Covid-19 pandemic placed extraordinary demands on parents and caregivers, who were compelled to balance professional responsibilities with the added pressures of home-schooling and providing emotional reassurance to their children during an unprecedented period of uncertainty.

The occasion serves as a timely reminder to reflect on the shared experience of parenthood and to acknowledge those caregivers navigating far more difficult circumstances. It is a moment not only of celebration, but of solidarity and awareness for families across the globe.
