German Envoy Commends Pakistan's Economic Reform Efforts

Islamabad (GNP):  Ina Lepel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Pakistan, called on Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, offering congratulations on Pakistan’s recent sovereign credit rating upgrade by Moody’s and commending the country’s economic progress despite regional geostrategic headwinds.

She said the improved rating signaled growing confidence in Pakistan’s economic direction and reform agenda.

The Finance Minister briefed the Ambassador on recent macroeconomic gains, including stronger foreign exchange reserves and sustained efforts to maintain fiscal discipline.

He spoke of the government’s focus on preserving macroeconomic stability, pushing forward structural reforms, and building a more favorable climate for investment and business.

Discussion also turned to German multinational firms operating in Pakistan and ways to further improve the business environment. The Finance Minister stressed the importance of policy consistency, better business facilitation, and institutional reform in deepening economic engagement between the two countries.

He also outlined ongoing digitalization efforts within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), noting how technology-driven reforms are improving tax administration, transparency and efficiency.

He said expanded digitalization would streamline processes, boost compliance, and create a more efficient, transparent and predictable environment for international businesses operating in Pakistan.

Senator Aurangzeb reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening institutions, improving the business climate, and advancing reforms that support sustainable growth and investor confidence.

For her part, Ambassador Lepel praised the government’s continued push toward economic stabilization and structural reform, and reaffirmed Germany’s interest in deepening bilateral economic and business ties with Pakistan.

She voiced support for continued engagement and greater collaboration between German and Pakistani companies.

She also extended an invitation to the Finance Minister to attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK), scheduled to take place in Seoul later this year — an event designed to bring together business and political leaders and strengthen economic relations between Europe’s largest economy and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
