Finance minister advocates measures to boost tax-to-GDP ratio

Islamabad, 4 April 2024, (GNP): Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, emphasized the measures to boost the tax-to-GDP ratio and expand the tax base in order to maximize revenue collection.

The minister visited the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Headquarters and, in a meeting with the Chairman and Members of the Board, urged for concerted efforts to meet the revenue collection target for the current year.

According to a press statement issued by FBR, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan was also in attendance during the occasion.

In the meeting, Chairman FBR, Malik Amjad Zubair Towana, provided a comprehensive briefing to the minister regarding the revenue collection endeavors for the current fiscal year (2023-24).

The Chairman also outlined the measures being implemented to digitize FBR operations, aiming to enhance its performance further.

In addition to discussing pending legal cases, the participants deliberated on ways to streamline tax enforcement procedures and tackle challenges hindering revenue collection.

Additionally, the importance of taxpayer education and outreach programs to foster voluntary compliance was highlighted as a key aspect of the broader strategy to enhance revenue collection efforts.
