Dar, EU's Kallas Discuss Regional Ties and Bilateral Agenda

Islamabad (GNP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held talks with European Union High Representative and Vice President (EU HRVP) Kaja Kallas, during which both leaders reviewed the fast-moving situation across the region.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office Spokesperson, Kallas acknowledged Pakistan’s genuine diplomatic efforts that led to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, while also voicing strong concern over recent ceasefire violations. She stressed that lines of communication between all parties must be kept open.

During the conversation, DPM Dar updated the EU HRVP on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic engagement aimed at building a broader framework for peace and stability in the region. He also underlined the obligation of all parties to honour the ceasefire agreement. Both sides agreed to stay in close touch going forward.

Earlier, in May 2026, comprehensive delegation-level talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs saw both sides reaffirm their commitment to deepening their wide-ranging partnership. Those discussions covered expanding trade and economic ties, including under the GSP+ framework, and boosting bilateral investment — building on momentum generated by the first EU–Pakistan Business Forum, held in Islamabad in April.

Wider regional and global issues of shared interest also featured prominently in discussions. DPM Dar outlined Pakistan’s active and constructive role in advancing regional peace, an effort the EU side again commended. Both parties stressed the need for dialogue, respect for international law, and multilateral cooperation in tackling today’s global challenges.

During her visit, the EU HRVP also met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. In both meetings, leadership from each side expressed satisfaction with the positive direction of bilateral relations, discussed regional developments, and agreed on the importance of sustained high-level engagement.

The visit served to further cement the Pakistan–EU partnership and opened avenues for deeper cooperation across shared priority areas. Both sides also confirmed that the ninth session of the Pakistan–EU Strategic Dialogue will take place next year in Brussels.
