Dar, British FS Structured Dialogue Mechanism to Deepen Ties

London (GNP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held delegation-level talks with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband in London during his official visit to the United Kingdom.

The two sides reviewed the full range of Pakistan-UK bilateral relations and agreed to set up a structured mechanism for formal talks between their respective foreign ministries, covering all areas of cooperation and allowing for regular progress reviews on key issues.

Both ministers emphasized the value of sustained high-level engagement and closer coordination on matters of shared interest.

The discussion also touched on major regional and international developments, including the evolving situation in the Middle East.

Dar briefed Miliband on Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts in the region and the progress made through these initiatives, which the Foreign Secretary acknowledged, commending Pakistan’s constructive role in encouraging dialogue, diplomacy and stability in the Middle East.

Talks also addressed the Indus Waters Treaty and the broader regional security situation, with Dar raising concerns over India’s continued violations of its international commitments and stressing the need to uphold international law and treaty obligations.

He further expressed serious concern over terrorist threats originating from Afghan territory and the risks posed to Pakistan’s peace and security by militant groups operating from Afghanistan.
