Beijing, 31 May 2023, GNP: Chinese scientists have embarked on a groundbreaking drilling project by delving deeper into the earth’s crust. China has begun drilling 10,000 meters (32,808 feet) hole seeking new frontiers in the Chinese Xinjiang region.
This will be a significant milestone in China’s pursuit of exploration of new frontiers above and below the planet’s surface. Reportedly, China’s deepest-ever borehole was initiated in the oil-rich Xinjiang region on Tuesday, Xinhua news agency.

Apparently, the massive drilling promises to delve into more than ten continental strata, penetrating the earth’s surface to reach the cretaceous system. This remarkable geological layer features rock dating back 145 million years.
Addressing the daunting venture, Sun Jinecheng, “compared construction complexity to that of a large truck driving on two thin steel cables”. Sun Jincheng is known as China’s distinguished scientist at the esteemed Chinese Academy of Engineering. The metaphor he used encapsulates the intricacies and convolutions associated with this pioneering scientific expedition, told Chinese news agency.
Further, Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a visionary speech in 2021, stated the need for advancements in deep earth exploration. This magnificent quest signifies the presence of valuable minerals and energy resources in the oil-rich region. Also, will aid in the assessment of environmental risks, including earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
