Russian and Iranian Foreign Minister holds phone call

Moscow, 15 October 2021 (GNP/TDI): The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov held a telephonic conversation with the Foreign Minister of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

The Ministers “synchronized watches” on the important topics on the bilateral agenda. Which they discussed on October 6, 2021, in Moscow. They discussed how the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear program has progressed. It was confirmed that resuming the nuclear accord in its original balanced structure is the only option to protect all parties’ interests. The ministers expressed their intention to resume JCPOA negotiations in Vienna soon.

Russia and Iran share similar viewpoints on a number of regional strategic concerns. That acts as a powerful motivator for Iran to strengthen its military relationship with the Russians. Russia has backed Iran on a number of crucial issues and sees Tehran as a valuable ally. In recent years, Iran and Russia have extended their political, economic, and military cooperation significantly. They also work closely together on intelligence and security issues.
