First batch of 149 Pakistanis evacuated from Sudan

Dozens of countries have attempted to evacuate their citizens amidst heavy fighting in the capital Khartoum

Khartoum, 28 April 2023 (GNP): After intense diplomatic efforts by neighboring countries, the US, UK and UN, the ceasefire in Sudan has been extended for another 72 hours. The previous truce allowed thousands of people to flee to safety, while dozens of countries have attempted to evacuate their citizens amidst heavy fighting in the capital Khartoum.
The extension of the ceasefire was expected to end at midnight local time on Thursday. However, early on Thursday evening, the Sudanese regular army agreed to an extension, and its rival, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), followed suit hours later.

The fighting between the army and the RSF, which has been ongoing for almost two weeks, has left hundreds dead. Despite the extension of the ceasefire, there are continuing reports of heavy fighting in Khartoum.
South Sudan has offered to host peace talks, and the army has agreed to send representatives to the talks. The safe evacuation of every Pakistani and bringing them home safe remains a top priority for Pakistan, and the first batch of 149 Pakistanis evacuated from Sudan has arrived safely in Karachi.
The international community has been closely monitoring the situation in Sudan and has called for an immediate end to the violence. The US, UK and UN have been working tirelessly to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
