Korea : Senator Kamran Murtaza, representing the Senate of Pakistan, delivered Pakistan’s official statement and presented country report at the 21st Asia-Pacific Parliamentarians’ Conference on Environment and Development (APPCED), hosted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea under the theme *“Together, for Climate Resilience.
Delivering his statement, Senator Kamran Murtaza, on behalf of the Chairman Senate, emphasized the urgency of the theme *“Together, for Climate Resilience. He highlighted the country’s increasing vulnerability to climate impacts, citing recent catastrophic floods, extreme weather events, and their devastating toll on lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure.
Senator Murtaza called for climate justice and enhanced international support, particularly through scaled-up, grant-based, and accessible climate finance mechanisms for vulnerable nations. He showcased Pakistan’s progressive climate legislation and policy initiatives, including the **Pakistan Climate Change Act**, the **National Adaptation Plan**, and the **solarization of Parliament House**—making it the first fully solar-powered parliament in the world.
He further outlined ongoing national and provincial efforts such as the **Recharge Pakistan Program**, the **Living Indus Initiative**, the **Green Sukuk issuance**, and sectoral policies on electric vehicles, clean air, glacier protection, and green building codes. Senator Murtaza also highlighted Pakistan’s **National Economic Transformation Plan 2024–29**, which prioritizes climate resilience across five key pillars: Exports, E-Pakistan, Equity & Empowerment, Environment, and Energy.
Concluding his remarks, Senator Murtaza urged Asia-Pacific parliamentarians to align laws, budgets, and accountability mechanisms with climate goals, and stressed that **regional partnerships and parliamentary leadership are essential for building a resilient future.
